Education & Training

The Center for Leadership in Global Sustainability offers a variety of professional and career development opportunities for early, mid, and late career professionals looking to build knowledge and skills in the area of sustainability and sustainable development.

Graduate Degrees:

The interdisciplinary Master of Natural Resources (MNR) program, which is offered in a variety of formats, is designed as a professional graduate degree for people working in all aspects of environmental and natural resource management and sustainability.  Drawing students from all sectors and disciplines, the MNR program is a 30-credit, non-thesis program exploring socio-ecological systems, particularly in an urbanizing and globalizing context. To solidify the global experience, the program also includes an international travel component.

Certificate Programs:

Unsure about a full masters degree program? Or maybe you would like to take a few courses before you decide? Certificates are one way to earn graduate credit and receive formal recognition for education and training you receive without enrolling in a full degree program. CLiGS offers two graduate certificate programs and one professional certificate program.

Professional Development:

CLiGS will be offering a series of workshops, clinics, and short-courses in the DC metro area focused on specialized topics and skills for emerging leaders in sustainability.

International Experiences:

Interested in learning and traveling internationally while gaining professional experience AND earning graduate credits?  CLiGS offers a series of international projects each year to graduate students and working professionals to explore sustainability challenges and solutions in some of the world’s most rapidly developing regions of world.

Sustainability is an inherently global challenge, requiring leaders to maintain a global perspective and be able to work internationally. CLiGS provides opportunities to explore these issues and gain international experience through participation in Global Sustainability Initiative International Projects.
