Current Status of Wildfire Preparedness in India

India has experienced some extensive large fires in the last several years (2012 and 2016) and its ability to be prepared in the future should be a big concern for not only the Government of India but also its citizens of India and those of surrounding countries of Asia.

The United States model for wildfire preparedness is recognized as the “gold standard” and, for purposes of this research paper, will be used to evaluate the India model for its effectiveness. The evaluation of the Government of India’s current wildfire preparedness model against that of the United States Government will identify both short-term and long-term recommendations that should prove beneficial in future years.
