Master of Natural Resources at a Glance

The Master of Natural Resources degree is designed for professionals aiming to advance their careers or to shift to leadership roles in environmental, conservation, and sustainability fields or functions. Delivered through two flexible formats—online and hybrid—our innovative instruction allows you to immediately apply what you learn to real-world challenges. Our programs are designed for students who have recently graduated and adult learners with jobs, families, and other responsibilities in addition to graduate school. We support all our students, and we have the experience, capacity, and resources to ensure your success.

The Online Master of Natural Resources is a 10 course / 30 credit hour program that prepares students to excel in environmental conservation, sustainability, and natural resources careers. Students may choose a focus area or pursue an area of interest via independent study. Electives may be selected from focus areas, including: Biodiversity and Ecosystems, Climate Resilience, Environmental Policy, Urban Ecosystems, and Water and Marine Systems. Students may earn two Graduate Certificates and transfer approved graduate coursework from other programs.

The Executive Master of Natural Resources is an accelerated (1 year / 30 credits) program that combines the best of online and in-person education in a hybrid and cohort-based curriculum focused on systems learning, leadership, and change. This program is a transformative learning and leadership development experience that educates, inspires, and empowers professionals to address current and emerging challenges in sustainable development, environmental justice, climate resilience, and related topics. 


■ Cohorts start in January and are limited to ~25 students
■ Age range of students: ~20 - 65+ 
■ Hybrid: Online + 5 Washington, D.C. area weekends and 10 day study abroad
■ Synchronous and asynchronous coursework for added flexibility
■ Low student-to-faculty ratio with extensive faculty interaction
■ Customized career guidance and internship opportunities
■ Peer-to-peer and experiential learning to maximize networking, and real-world application of concepts
