Emily is the Interim Director of the Center for Leadership in Global Sustainability, and has led cross-functional teams for more than two decades across three sectors. Prior to joining Virginia Tech, Emily served as the senior director of community affairs for Capital One Financial Corporation, directed Gonzaga University’s mission area development efforts, and advanced community-based coalition building for America’s Promise-The Alliance for Youth. She received a B.A. in English from The College of William and Mary, a M.A. in Communication and Leadership Studies from Gonzaga University, and an Executive Master of Natural Resources and Doctor of Philosophy in Forestry from Virginia Tech. Emily serves on the board of directors for the Model Forest Policy Program. Her research on "Systems Thinking for Systems Leadership: Promoting Competency Development for Graduate Students in Sustainability Studies" is published in the International Journal of Sustainability in Higher Education.
