Sustainable Cuba

Cuba has been ranked as one of the most sustainable countries in the world. But it also faces profound challenges as an island nation in the 21st century.  In 2018, the Center for Leadership in Global Sustainability (CLIGS) began to include Cuba on its list of countries its students will be visiting. Likewise, as the co-founder of Solstice, CLiGS’ longtime travel partner, I’m pleased to announce an opportunity for all our mutual friends and colleagues to experience Cuba.

As many of you know, since 2010, CLiGS taken hundreds of graduate students to locations around the world as an integral part of the Master of Natural Resources (MNR) degree. But this type of travel isn’t limited to graduate students. Solstice will be introducing a new learning journey in November 2018. This faculty designed and led experience will occur over 8 days in Cuba, to the city of Havana and the World Heritage valley of Viñales.

As Dr. Marc Stern, the lead faculty on the journey, notes, “Cuba’s culture and architecture are like nowhere else in the world — the people are friendly, warm, and intellectual, and the architecture opulent, crumbling, and imbued with the strokes of global politics at every turn.”
