Graduate Certificate in Watershed Management (GCWM)
Management of water resources is a critical issue facing governmental agencies, as well as the private/industrial sector and citizens. The Graduate Certificate in Watershed Management (GCWM) provides excellent opportunities for students from many disciplines to study watershed management and develop interdisciplinary skills necessary for effective professional work in this emerging field.
Students accepted in the Online MNR and other Virginia Tech graduate programs may be admitted into the WSMC program by completing the Graduate Certificate Application and focusing four of their five electives on the program requirements.
Certificate Format
- 11-12 credit hours, consisting of one course from each of four content areas: Watershed Managment, Foundation in Watershed Science, Quantitative Watershed Analysis, and Watershed Policy
- All courses are offered online (asynchronous and streaming)
- Students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
Admission Requirements
Students can apply for the GCWM as a Virginia Tech degree-seeking or Commonwealth Campus student, or as a visiting student. If you are not currently a VT student, you must apply for graduate admission as a certificate-seeking student through the Virginia Tech Graduate School.
Requirements for admission include:
- Completed undergraduate degree
- Current resume/CV
- Personal goal statement
- Completed application
- No GRE required; TOEFL may be required for international students
